noopener\">Carla Michini<\/a>, an assistant professor of <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.wisc.edu\/departments\/industrial-systems-engineering\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">industrial and systems engineering<\/a> at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, will lead a collaborative, Department of Defense-funded project to develop new computational tools to bolster real-time decision-making capabilities in complex systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The three-year, $587,381 project is part of the Department of Defense\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defense.gov\/News\/Releases\/Release\/Article\/3390690\/dod-announces-awards-under-the-defense-established-program-to-stimulate-competi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Defense Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research<\/a> (DEPSCoR), which seeks to strengthen basic research infrastructure at universities and colleges across 37 states and U.S. territories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Michini says the work aims to accelerate computation time for real-time decision-making applications using multiparametric linear programming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe results of this project have the potential to enable the use of optimization models to make better and more reliable real-time operational decisions in a variety of complex systems of significant importance to the mission of the Department of Defense, such as logistics systems, microgrid power systems, and resource deployment and repositioning,\u201d says Michini.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.engr.wisc.edu\/ie\/Faculty\/Luedtke_James\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jim Luedtke<\/a> is also a collaborator on the
