{"id":102990,"date":"2024-11-21T14:47:30","date_gmt":"2024-11-21T20:47:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/engineering.wisc.edu\/?p=102990"},"modified":"2024-11-22T10:59:46","modified_gmt":"2024-11-22T16:59:46","slug":"badger-engineers-selected-for-nuclear-news-40-under-40-list","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/engineering.wisc.edu\/blog\/badger-engineers-selected-for-nuclear-news-40-under-40-list\/","title":{"rendered":"Badger engineers selected for Nuclear News\u2019 40 Under 40 list"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Nuclear News<\/em>, the flagship publication of the American Nuclear Society, has named <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.engr.wisc.edu\/neep\/Faculty\/Lindley_Benjamin\/\">Ben Lindley<\/a>, an assistant professor of <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.wisc.edu\/departments\/nuclear-engineering-engineering-physics\/\">nuclear engineering and engineering physics<\/a> at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and alumni Grace Stanke, Kathryn Huff, Erik Nygaard and Kevin Field to its inaugural <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ans.org\/news\/article-6567\/inuclear-newsi-announces-the-40-under-40\/\">40 Under 40 list<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The list honors talented young professionals who are leading the charge in nuclear, making significant strides across the industry\u2014from advanced reactor technology to policy shaping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lindley\u2019s expertise is in reactor physics, and his research focuses on designing and analyzing new nuclear reactors. He has substantial research and leadership experience in the areas of digital engineering for nuclear reactors, fusion reactor simulation, and advanced reactor core and primary system design. He is also a co-founder and technical advisor for Realta Fusion Inc., a UW\u2013Madison spinoff focused on commercializing mirror machines as fusion energy reactors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.wisc.edu\/news\/as-miss-wisconsin-engineering-student-promotes-nuclear-energy-on-a-big-stage\/\">Stanke<\/a> (BSNE \u201923) was Miss America 2023 and used her platform to advocate for clean-energy solutions, with a strong focus on nuclear energy. She currently works as a nuclear fuels engineer and clean energy advocate at Constellation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Huff (PhDNEEP \u201913), former assistant secretary of energy at the U.S. Department of Energy\u2019s Office of Nuclear Energy, is an associate professor in the Department of Nuclear, Plasma, and Radiological Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nygaard (BSNE &#8217;09, MSNE &#8217;11) is director of product development at BWX Technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Field (MSMSE &#8217;09, PhDMSE &#8217;12) is an associate professor of Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences at the University of Michigan.
